Canberra’s upcoming Enlighten Festival 2018, proudly presented by Singapore Airlines, will kick off with the unveiling of the architectural projections, Illuminating cultural institutions within the Parliamentary Triangle, at this year’s ‘Switch On’ event.

Enlighten Festival’s Switch On Event, powered by official energy partner ActewAGL, takes place Friday 2nd March 2018 at the National Library of Australia, launching the 16 night festival.

Unveiled by one lucky member of the public chosen through an ActewAGL competition, Switch On will be the first chance to see the capital’s major attractions including the National Gallery of Australia, National Portrait Gallery, Museum of Australian Democracy, Questacon and Australian Parliament House transform in myriad colours, shapes and images projected on the buildings’ facades.

“Switch On is a theme that resonates across Enlighten Festival 2018 – at the launch event we officially switch on the Enlighten Illuminations. Then over the following 16 days, visitors can switch on their minds with events at the ANU precinct, new for 2018, and switch on their senses at the vibrant and bustling Enlighten Night Noodle Markets,” said Minister for the Arts and Community Events, Gordon Ramsay MLA.

This is the second year ActewAGL has partnered with Enlighten, and is part of a three year partnership which recognises them as the energy partner for the festival. It is also important that the ACT Government partners with such organisations in working towards strengthening the future of Canberra, and in providing services and support which benefits the whole community.

“ActewAGL is very proud to be the energy partner for Enlighten again this year,” said Paul Walshe, ActewAGL’s Director of Brand Communications and Corporate Affairs.

“Enlighten quite literally shines a light on our beautiful capital city, and we are pleased to be putting our energy behind it,” Mr Walshe continued.

Switch On will take place from 7.45pm on the steps of the National Library with the official “Switch On” taking place at 8pm.

Patrons are encouraged to head down to the National Library a little earlier from 6:30pm to join in as the National Library explodes in a far-out event of sound, colour and activity celebrating 50 swingin’ years since the building opened in 1968. Families can twist and shout to 60s music, a kids’ disco and get creative at art and craft stations prior to the official Switch On ceremony.

The expanded footprint program for the 2018 Enlighten Festival is part of the government’s strategy to build Enlighten into a world-class autumn festival, through showcasing the best of Canberra and attracting a broad range of visitors to the city.
