It’s been an exciting start to 2016 for Yass Valley with four brilliant new tourism attractions open and welcoming visitors.
“We are pleased to welcome two brand new accommodation properties to Yass Valley – the historic ‘Coodravale Homestead’, an iconic Australian homestead built on the property which was once the home of A.B ‘Banjo’ Paterson. And the brand new ‘The Nest at Gundaroo’”, said Economic Development and Tourism Manager for Yass Valley Council, Sean Haylan.
“Those with a fondness for fine food will be rapt with our newest Yass restaurant, Clementine, and art lovers will be impressed with Yass’ brand new art gallery set within an Art Deco building built in 1937, the ‘Tootsie Fine Art and Design Studio.
“It’s a great time to be in the region as we’re buzzing with the excitement of these new tourism ventures. We look forward to welcoming more visitors to explore these new attractions and everything else the Yass Valley has to offer,” Sean concluded.
Coodravale Homestead – stay on the property which was once home to Banjo Paterson.
Yes that’s right. Yass Valley’s new accommodation offering is the property which was once home to Banjo Patterson. It’s the historic Coodravale Homestead, located in the beautiful and very picturesque Goodradigbee Valley near Wee Jasper, just over an hour from Canberra.
This stunning property comprises a large Federation style bungalow set in a large park-like garden with frontage onto the Goodradigbee River at Wee Jasper.
The station, originally comprising some 30,000 acres and used for cattle, horses, sheep and crops, was home to Banjo Paterson from 1908 to 1911, when it was then sold to the Lindeman family (of wine fame), who built the current homestead in 1923.
Its current owners have recently renovated and restored the property with the style of the original house, with The Garden Wing extensively refurbished and now available as a fully self-contained guest wing.
The Garden Wing is spacious and comprises an airy and well-appointed bedroom with ensuite, a spacious living and dining area with a fully equipped adjacent kitchenette.

Oh my darling Clementine! – delicious regional food from this new food gem
Clementine Restaurant is a new regional restaurant serving seasonal rustic French Italian food, and it’s a welcome addition to Yass’ emerging fine dining scene.
Chef Adam Bantock, of Canberra’s Dieci e Mezzo, A. Baker and Temporado fame, wanted to provide a wonderful food experience to locals and visitors to Yass, and he does this with his simple European style bistro menu – four entrees, four mains and four desserts that change weekly. All dishes focus on local and regional food with a wonderful 100% local wine list.
Having just opened in late 2015, the restaurant is set in a white weatherboard cottage seating 50 people with a deck for alfresco dining. You can find Clementine in Meehan Street, just off Yass’ main street, open Friday to Sunday for lunch, and Thursday to Saturday for dinner.

Toddle in to Tootsie Fine Art & Design Studio
Set within a loving restored and beautiful art deco building from 1937, Tootsie Fine Art and Design Studio has recently opened on one of Yass’ main streets.
The studio provides unique exhibition spaces, restored workshop space for hire and a sculpture garden for artists and art lovers of many mediums to present their work and their passions to the public.
Tootsie was originally built in 1936 and opened in 1937 as the Hume Service Station, one of the first service stations between Melbourne and Sydney and the first all night service station.
The new studio and gallery is an authentic 1940s and 50s environment to suit handcrafted works of creation by artists and artisans – it’s friendly and funky, and the coffee and cakes are damn good too.
