Media Release – Wednesday 1 October 2014

Retro has well and truly made a return. And this month sees the return of retro at the Old Bus Depot Markets for the final time in 2014 with the Retro Depot in October event on Sunday 12 October.

“This month we have some great collectors bringing together original ceramics, furniture, jewellery, accessories and homewares from the 1950s and 60s for Retro Depot in October,” said Old Bus Depot Markets Director, Morna Whitin

“These pieces are not the reproductions that you’ll find in shopping mall homeware stalls, these are the real deal, and it’s your chance to revel in the retro,” Morna continued.

Russell Brooks from Circa Collectables is a specialist collector who will also be at Retro Depot with a great selection of original 1950s and 60s ceramics. He will have a selection of West German pottery, Italian pottery, Australian design and some English objects as well.

“Retro or mid-century style has made a huge comeback in decorating the younger generation’s living space, and good design from 50 plus years ago is highly sought after,” said Russell.

“It is now once again adorning people’s houses as the modern generation has embraced and fallen in love with the objects that were once everyday household decorative and useful objects of their parents or grandparents,” he continued.

Local collector, Irena McKillop from Ritzy Bits, has been collecting for Retro Depot in October for many months and will be onsite with stacks of cool items such as modernist Scandinavian furniture from the 1960s including iconic Australia Parker, Tessa and Chiswell; a Jens Quistgaard coffee table and Danish arm chairs; original Australian Hermannsberg watercolours; a collection of retro atomic starburst clocks and 1950’s quintessential occasional furniture and kitchenware.

As an extra special treat for market-goers, the MG Car Club Rally, MG TYme, will also be making an appearance at Retro Depot in October. Around 60-70 MGs ranging in age from the mid 1930s up to 1955 will be coming from across Australia and will be on display in markets’ car park and courtyard. These fabulous vintage cars will be on display from 10am until around 11.30am.

Retro Depot in October will be open Sunday 12 October from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free. For more information on the Old Bus Depot Markets go to www.obdm.com.au
